ECLIPSE to Cross $250m Milestone Box Office



The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, starring Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Stephenie Meyer, David Slade, and directed by David Slade, has been replaced by animated movie, Despicable Me, directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, and featuring the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Julie Andrew, as the top movie at the North American box office on Friday. Eclipse faced 48.5% drop-off rate in its second weekend. It earned an estimated $33.4m at the US/Canada box office this weekend, Box Box Office Mojo reported.

Eclipse, at $237m, surpassed both How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek Forever After in the domestic twelve-day total collections to become the fourth highest among 2010′s domestic releases. It trails Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, and Iron Man 2. According to weekend studio estimates, Eclipse should cross the $250m milestone at the domestic box office either next Tuesday or Wednesday. In terms of worldwide collections, Eclipse has taken in $456m. It should cross the $500m mark next weekend.

The Eclipse cast also includes: Bryce Dallas Howard, Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Xavier Samuel, Dakota Fanning, Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser, Nikki Reed, and Anna Kendrick.

Occupying the third spot is Nimród Antal-directed, Predators, earning an estimated $11m on Friday for a weekend total of about $30m. Toy Story 3 was the weekend’s no. 4 movie, with $7.3m on Friday and approximately $21m by Sunday night, while M. Night Shyamalan‘s The Last Airbender was at the no. 5 spot, with $5.3m on Friday and about $17m for the weekend.
